dc.description.abstract | The United Republic of Tanzania held General Elections on 28 October 2020 to elect the President, Members of Parliament and Local Council representatives. The incumbent, John Magufuli of Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) won the presidential elections with 12, 516, 252 votes (84.4%) of the 14,830,195 valid vote cast. His main challenger, Tundu Lissu of Chama Cha Demokrasia na Maendeleo (CHADEMA) got 1,933,271 (13,036%) In Zanzibar, the CCM candidate, Dr. Hussein Ali Mwinyi, secured 76.27% of the 489,786 valid votes cast. For the Parliamentary Elections, the CCM also won 256 out of the 264 seats on in Tanzania and 44 of the 50 seats in Zanzibar. | en |
