Abstract
The African Union Peace and Security Council (PSC), at its 1302nd meeting on 19 September 2025, reviewed the situation in the Central African Republic (CAR) and commended the country’s progress in implementing the 2019 Political Agreement for Peace and Reconciliation. The Council welcomed preparations for the harmonized elections scheduled for 28 December 2025 and called on AU Member States and partners to provide financial, technical, and material support. It urged continued dialogue and reconciliation efforts, extension of state authority, and the full deployment of an AU electoral observation mission. The PSC praised advances in the Disarmament, Demobilization, and Reintegration (DDR) program, called for stronger humanitarian aid amid insecurity and refugee influxes, and emphasized justice, rule of law, and socio-economic recovery measures. It also condemned foreign interference, advocated for the lifting of the UN arms embargo on CAR, and appealed for debt relief and coordinated international support for development and stability.
