Communiqué of the 1242nd Meeting (Open Session) of the Peace and Security Council held on 31 October 2024 on the Briefing on Women, Peace and Security interlinkage.

Abstract

The Council reaffirmed the AU's commitment to advancing women’s participation and leadership in peace processes, condemning violence against women in conflict. The Council further emphasized integrating a gender-based perspective in peace operations and urged the AU Commission to: enhance infrastructure to meet women’s needs; create programs for women’s equal representation in peace missions; establish mechanisms to monitor UNSCR 1325 and AU gender equality goals; support National Action Plans for Women, Peace, and Security; provide medical, psychological, and legal aid to women affected by gender-based violence; and seek funding for gender-specific peace and security initiatives, including from the Peace Fund.
