Abstract
The AU Peace and Security Council undertook a field mission to Conakry, Guinea (30–31 May 2025) to assess the transition process following the 2021 coup. Led by H.E. Amb. Harold Bundu Saffa, the mission met with transition authorities, including the Prime Minister, NTC, and key ministries, discussing progress on restoring constitutional order. Authorities highlighted efforts towards a 21 September 2025 constitutional referendum and December 2025 elections, emphasizing inclusive drafting of a new constitution, biometric census, and administrative decentralization. They requested AU support for lifting sanctions to enhance economic recovery and participation in global forums. The PSC noted progress in rebuilding institutions, governance reforms, and anti-corruption measures, while urging continued commitment to the transition roadmap and human rights. The PSC recommended AU technical and financial support, wider inclusivity of women, youth, CSOs, and sustained dialogue with ECOWAS to ensure a credible, civilian-led transition.
