Abstract

The Provisional Programme of Work (PPoW) of the African Union Peace and Security Council (PSC) for August 2025, under Algeria’s chairship, outlines a series of physical and virtual engagements focusing on continental peace and security. Key activities include a Committee of Experts' review of the Counter-Terrorism Sub-Committee’s Terms of Reference (Aug 1), several Ambassadorial-level meetings addressing the situation in Sudan (Aug 4), AU governance mechanisms (Aug 6), and education in conflict settings (Aug 13). The Council also plans to consider reports on South Sudan and counter-terrorism (Aug 15), conduct a second annual consultative meeting with SADC (Aug 25), and receive briefings on Africa’s early warning systems (Aug 27) and from African UN Security Council members (Aug 29). A field mission to South Sudan is also scheduled during the month.
