Abstract
The European Union Political and Security Committee (EU PSC) and the African Union Peace and Security Council (AU PSC) held their 16th Annual Joint Consultative Meeting in Brussels on 9 October 2025, co-chaired by Ambassadors Delphine Pronk and Tebelelo Alfred Boang. The meeting, preceded by a Joint Retreat on peace operations, maritime security, and hybrid threats, reaffirmed the two bodies’ commitment to multilateralism, international law, and the UN Charter. Both parties reiterated their joint dedication to peace efforts in Ukraine, Palestine, Sudan, South Sudan, the DRC, the Sahel, and other conflict zones. They reviewed collaboration under the African Peace and Security Architecture and highlighted EU support through the European Peace Facility. Discussions addressed the situations in Somalia, Sudan, the Great Lakes, the Sahel, and the Lake Chad Basin, stressing sustainable funding for AU-led peace missions, notably AUSSOM, and adherence to UNSC Resolution 2719. The communiqué condemned terrorism, unconstitutional changes of government, and external interference, while underscoring humanitarian access, post-conflict reconstruction, women’s participation in peace processes, and climate-security linkages. The next meeting will be held in Addis Ababa in 2026.
