Communiqué of the 1254th Meeting of the Peace and Security Council, held on 13 January 2025 on the Consideration Report of the Chairperson of the AU Commission on the Activities of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) against Boko Haram Terrorist Group and Renewal of its Mandate.

Abstract

The Council endorsed the Report of the Chairperson of the Commission on MNJTF activities against Boko Haram, acknowledging progress in degrading the group’s capacity, increased surrenders, and IDP resettlements. It commended MNJTF and Troop-Contributing Countries, emphasized regional cooperation, and paid tribute to personnel losses. Despite progress, Boko Haram remains a threat, requiring sustained, coordinated actions. The Council stressed addressing root causes, implementing the RS-SRR, strengthening MNJTF, enhancing resource mobilization, and renewing agreements for continued support. The MNJTF’s mandate was renewed for 12 months, effective 1 February 2025.
