Report of the Field Mission of the Peace and Security Council to Egypt and to Port Sudan Conducted from 1 to 4 October 2024.

Abstract

The main objective of the solidarity field mission to Port Sudan was to constructively engage with transitional leadership of Sudan, and other key Sudanese stakeholders, with a view to having a better understanding of their perspectives regarding practical means and ways of successfully ending the current crisis, including sticking points in the ongoing peace process and challenges that need urgent attention, going forward. In Cairo, the PSC engaged with H.E. Ahmed Abou El Gheit, the Secretary General of the League of Arab States. The PSC and the Secretary-General expressed mutual commitment to enhancing coordination and cooperation on peace and security and agreed to hold regular consultations to forge common messages on areas of mutual interests. The PSC was also granted audience by H.E. Badr Abdelatty, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptians Abroad of the Arab Republic of Egypt, and exchanged pertinent views on regional, continental and global peace and security developments.
