Communiqué of the 1236th Meeting of the Peace and Security Council held on 22 October 2024 on Joint Meeting Between the PSC and the Permanent Representatives Committee (PRC) Sub-Committee on General Supervision and Coordination on Budgetary, Financial and Administrative Matters and F-15 Technical Experts, on Financing Peace Support Operations and Activities of the Peace and Security Council.

Abstract

The Council commended the PRC Sub-Committee and F-15 Technical Experts for their dedication to securing sustainable funding for AU Peace Support Operations (PSOs) and peace efforts. Acknowledging ongoing funding challenges, the AU is committed to finding lasting solutions and commended the AU Commission’s resource mobilization efforts, especially in implementing UN Security Council Resolution 2719. The session recognizes recent private sector outreach and high-level pledging events and encouragesd more member contributions to the Peace Fund. The Council also highlighted the need for innovative financial solutions, stresses the UNSC’s role in supporting AUSSOM funding, and urges swift implementation of Resolution 2719. Commendations extend to contributing nations and AU-mandated personnel for their sacrifices. The Council further emphasized strengthening partnerships, enhancing flexible funding, and ensuring PSC activities have dedicated resources, including translation support. Finally, the Council resolved to stay engaged with these matters.
