Press Statement of the 1309th Meeting of the Peace and Security Council of the African Union, Held on 30 October 2025, on an Open Session on Women, Peace and Security in Africa: 25 Years of United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325 (UNSCR 1325).

Abstract

The PSC held its 1309th meeting on 30 October 2025 on “Women, Peace and Security in Africa,” marking 25 years of UNSCR 1325. Council highlighted women’s vital role in peace and security, recalled key AU decisions, and welcomed statements from AU officials, Member States, RECs/RMs, UN Women and the EU. It commended Namibia’s leadership and the Windhoek+25 Declaration, noted progress on implementing the WPS Agenda, and praised AU frameworks and FemWise-Africa’s contributions. Council urged stronger national action, gender-responsive budgeting, positive masculinity, youth inclusion, survivor-centred mechanisms, and enhanced coordination. It requested increased support for the Office of the AU Special Envoy on WPS and committed to remain seized of the matter.
