5th Report of the Peace and Security Council of the African Union on the Implementation of the African Union Master Roadmap of Practical Steps to Silence the Guns in Africa by the Year 2020, February 2019 - February 2020

Abstract

This Report covers the period from 10-11 February 2019 to 9-10 February 2020. In essence, it provides a synthesis of the efforts deployed by the PSC, RECs/RMs, AU Member States, AU Commission, UN and other stakeholders in the implementation of the AUMR and the achievements thus far made. It also provides an overview of on-going activities, as well as the challenges/constraints being encountered in the implementation of the AUMR. Furthermore, the report articulates observations/recommendations on how to further enhance the implementation of the AUMR in the run up to the December 2020 deadline. The year 2020, by December, is the deadline set by the Assembly for ending wars/silencing the guns in Africa in the Solemn Declaration adopted during the 50th OAU/AU Anniversary held in Addis Ababa, on 25 May 2013.
