Report of the Chairperson of the Commission on Ebola Virus Disease Outbreak Response in North Kivu and Ituri: Deteriorating Security Situation.

Abstract

On 28 July 2018, the Provincial Health Division of North Kivu notified the Ministry of Health of Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) a suspected cases of viral hemorrhagic fever, now confirmed to be Ebola virus disease (EVD) in Beni, province of North-Kivu. Following the declaration of the outbreak on 01 August 2018 by Government of DRC, Africa CDC mobilized its assets and human resource to the affected provinces since August 2018, supporting the response efforts of the Government, including laboratory support and deployment of more than 40 health workers to affected health zones and localities. The Africa CDC Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) remained activated since May 2018 in order to coordinate the EVD response and will remain activated until the outbreak is declared over.
