Report of the Field Mission of the Peace and Security Council to Bangui, Central African Republic and the Launching of the Africa Amnesty Month 2024, 9 to 10 September 2024.

Abstract

The objectives of the PSC Field Mission to Bangui and the Africa Amnesty Month (AAM) launch were to raise awareness of the AAM, urging civilians to surrender illicit weapons without fear of prosecution. The mission encouraged member states to address the root causes of armament, called for international support to combat illicit small arms, and promoted civil society participation in the AAM. Additionally, the mission responded to an invitation from CAR’s Foreign Minister, gathered insights into CAR's political, security, and socio-economic situation, and expressed AU solidarity with CAR's government and people.
