Abstract
The 1224th Peace and Security Council (PSC) meeting, held on July 25, 2024, in Addis Ababa, focused on the Half-Year Report of the AU Commission on Elections in Africa. The Council adopted the report, acknowledging the critical importance of peaceful, transparent, and credible elections in promoting democracy, peace, and stability across Africa. Commendations were extended to countries like Senegal and South Africa for their exemplary electoral processes. The PSC emphasized the need for Member States to enhance their electoral bodies, ensure gender equality, and encourage youth participation in elections. It also called for increased local resource mobilization to support election processes and prevent external interference. The PSC remains committed to supporting member states in their democratic journeys and rejects any unconstitutional changes in government.
