Jointly Convened High-Level Financing Event for the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York on 25 September 2025.

On 25 September 2025 in New York, Somalia, the AU, UN, and UK co-convened a High-Level Financing Event for AUSSOM that reaffirmed commitment to Somalia’s security transition and Somali ownership, praised AU troop/police contributors and the EU’s longstanding support, and aligned efforts with the Somali Security Development Plan. Participants noted progress under HE President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud (security gains against Al-Shabaab, governance reforms, local stabilization, and stronger regional cooperation) but warned that without predictable, sufficient funding, recent gains, supply routes, and stabilization could be jeopardized. They urged closing AUSSOM’s substantial financing gap, with announced pledges including AU (USD 20M) and UK (GBP 16.5M), additions from Italy, Japan, Republic of Korea, and Spain, and forthcoming EU support to the mission’s military component. Looking ahead, they committed to broaden the donor base, secure multiyear financing, and ensure accountability, transparency, and Somali ownership.
