Abstract
The African Union Peace and Security Council (PSC), at its 1277th meeting on 30 April 2025, reviewed Gabon's political transition and welcomed key developments including the inclusive National Dialogue, the adoption of a new constitution via referendum, and the successful presidential election on 12 April 2025, which marked the end of the transition. The Council commended the Gabonese people for their commitment to democracy and congratulated President-Elect Brice Oligui Nguema. The Council decided to lift Gabon’s suspension from AU activities, encouraged timely legislative and local elections, and reaffirmed the need to ensure the rights and safety of former President Ali Bongo. The Council praised the support of the AU, ECCAS, APRM, UNDP, and other actors, and resolved to monitor the situation and maintain engagement.
