Publication: Press Release: Cameroon Assumes Chairship of the AU Peace and Security Council for September 2024
Abstract
The Republic of Cameroon assumed the Chairship of the AU Peace and Security Council and programmed seven meetings for September 2024: one at the Ministerial level, four at the ambassadorial level, and one each at the level of the Committee of Experts (CoE) and Military Staff Committee (MSC). At the ministerial level, the session will focus on the new security threats and the future of the PSC, commemorating the 20th Anniversary of the PSC, and will take place in New York. There will be two open sessions at the ambassadorial level: Protection of Journalists in Conflict Situations in Africa and Climate Change, Peace and Security. There will also be a session on civil-military relations and another on the situation in South Sudan. The MSC will engage with the African Support Trainers Association (APSTA), while the CoE will prepare for the 18th Annual Joint Consultative Meeting with the UNSC.
