1st Retreat of the Peace and Security Council of the African Union, 5-6 July 2007, Dakar, Senegal.

The Retreat considered a number of issues relevant for putting in place enabling working methods for the functioning. Some of the issues discussed include, chairmanship of the PSC, establishment of the monthly programme of work, accreditation for PSC meetings, format of PSC meetings, decision-making process in the PSC, format of outcomes of PSC meetings/sessions, follow-up on implementation of the PSC decisions, establishment of subsidiary bodies, framework for PSC field missions, enhancement of the peace fund, advocacy for UN funding of AU peacekeeping missions in Africa among others.
