Communiqué of the 1186th Meeting of the Peace and Security Council, held on 16 November 2023, on Briefing on the Situation in South Sudan.

The Council commended H.E. President Salva Kiir Mayardit and First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar Teny for their commitment to peace and preventing war. They praised the R-TGoNU for maintaining stability and ratifying the African Charter on Human and Peoples Rights on the Rights of Women. The Council called for the lifting of sanctions, arms embargoe, review of punitive measures, and implementation of transitional security arrangements to address the proliferation of illicit small arms and light weapons in South Sudan.
