Communiqué of the 1233rd Meeting of the Peace and Security Council held on 25 September 2024, on New Security Threats in Africa and the Future of the Peace and Security Council of the African Union.

Abstract

The Council expressed deep concern over Africa's ongoing and emerging threats to peace, security, and stability, while commending AU Member States and RECs/RMs for their support in addressing these challenges. The Council urged both Member States and the international community to increase efforts in tackling the continent’s worsening humanitarian issues and called for the integration of cybersecurity into conflict prevention frameworks. Member States were encouraged to collaborate on enhancing digital resilience against cyber threats and disinformation. The Council also tasked the AU Commission with developing a policy paper on emerging threats for November review and providing timely early warnings to Member States.
