Communiqué of the 1289th Meeting of the Peace and Security Council, Held on 24 July 2025, on Consideration of the Draft Manual on the Modalities for Enhancing Coordination Between the PSC and the African Members of the United Nations Security Council (A3) - The Oran Process.

Abstract

On 24 July 2025, the African Union (AU) Peace and Security Council (PSC), during its 1289th meeting, adopted a Manual on Modalities for Enhancing Coordination between the PSC and the African Members (A3) of the UN Security Council (UNSC). This initiative aims to strengthen the A3's ability to effectively promote Africa’s peace and security agenda within the UNSC by improving information sharing, coordination, and alignment with AU decisions. The Manual draws from previous High-Level Seminars (HLS) and outlines strategies including synchronized engagements, cohesive A3 positions, strategic PSC guidance, regular reporting, and enhanced capacity building.
