Abstract

The Peace and Security Council (PSC) of the African Union (AU) held its 1302nd meeting on 19 September 2025 to discuss the situation in South Sudan. The PSC reaffirmed its commitment to South Sudan’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and support for peace, security, and stability. The Council emphasized the critical role of the 2018 Revitalized Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in South Sudan (R-ARCSS) as the path to sustainable peace and urged the Revitalized Transitional Government of National Unity (R-TGoNU) to intensify efforts for its full implementation. The PSC also called for an inclusive national political dialogue leading to national reconciliation and the successful conduct of elections in December 2026, while continuing to work with regional and international partners to support peace and reconciliation.
